Thanboddhay pagoda complex is located some 20 km south east of Monywa ( a trading town on the eastern bank of Chindwin river ). Monywa is located about 130 km west of Sagaing, the capital of Sagaing division. Thanboddhay pagoda is similar to Indonesia's famous Boro Bodur temple complex in some architectural designs.
